Austin Kielty is an SEAI-registered Domestic BER Assessor and Technical Assessor based in Elphin, Co. Roscommon. He runs ASK Consultants and personally carries out every assessment, across Roscommon, Leitrim, Mayo, Galway, Sligo, Longford and Westmeath.
Qualifications and registration
- BSc (Hons): honours Bachelor of Science degree.
- MIEI: Member of Engineers Ireland, the professional body for engineering in Ireland.
- SEAI-registered Domestic BER Assessor: registered with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland to carry out domestic BER assessments and publish certificates on the National Register.
- SEAI-registered Technical Assessor: registered to carry out the technical assessments required for grant-funded home energy upgrades.
Why a named assessor matters
When you book ASK Consultants, the person quoted on the phone, the person who surveys your home and the person who signs off the assessment are the same person: Austin.
Much of the BER market runs through national quote sites that auction your job to whoever bids lowest. That works fine if all you want is the cheapest possible cert. It works less well when the job has something technical attached, such as a grant target, a planning condition or a new build specification, because nobody in the chain owns the outcome. Austin's practice is built the other way around: a named, accredited local assessor who handles the technical, new-build and planning work as well as the standard certs.

ASK Consultants works across seven counties from Elphin, Co. Roscommon. The housing stock in the West is what Austin assesses week in, week out: rural bungalows and farmhouses, older stone buildings, one-off builds, and estate homes in the towns.
